At Nudea, we believe caring for yourself and caring for the planet should go hand in hand. And sometimes that starts with something as simple as your underwear drawer.
Many of us hold onto far more bras than we actually wear. In fact, the average woman owns around 20 bras but rotates just five of them regularly. If that sounds familiar, it might be time for a gentle reset. Letting go of pieces that no longer support you while making space for those that truly do.
But before you send those old bras to landfill, it’s worth knowing that bras are surprisingly difficult to dispose of responsibly. With more than 30 different components - from fibres and foam to metal hooks and elastic - most donation centres aren’t able to accept them. As a result, an estimated 19 million bras end up in landfill every year.
We knew there had to be a better way.

Nudea’s Bra Recycling Scheme
Introducing Bra-cycling, our way of helping you close the loop.
Using TerraCycle® and their Zero Waste Box™ solution we have created a simple recycling programme for Nudea customers. It allows you to responsibly part with bras you no longer wear, ensuring their materials are recovered and repurposed instead of ending up in landfill.
Because small actions like recycling a bra, can make a meaningful difference.
How Bra Recycling Works
Taking part is easy. Simply fill out our online form and let us know how many bras you’d like to recycle. We’ll then email you everything you need to send them back.
Existing Nudea customers receive free postage.
New customers can take part too - we’ll cover the recycling cost, and you just pay for postage.
What Happens to Your Bras?
Once your bras reach TerraCycle, they’re carefully sorted into different material categories - rigid and flexible - and separated by what they’re made from, such as plastics, fibres and metals.
Plastics
Plastic components are shredded and melted down to create raw materials that can be used to manufacture new products.
Fibres
Textiles are separated into natural and synthetic fibres. Natural fibres are transformed into a material called shoddy, commonly used for insulation or product padding. Synthetic fibres are processed into a dense material that can be used for applications like carpet backing.
Metals
Metal components are shredded, baled and smelted to create base materials that can be reused in items like nuts, bolts and washers.
What’s in It for You?
Aside from doing something positive for the planet and giving your underwear drawer a mindful refresh, we’ll also say thank you.
When we receive your recycled bras, you’ll receive 20% off your next Nudea purchase, so you can invest in pieces designed for comfort, support and sustainability.
A little reward for making a more conscious choice.
